Betsy Magley

2010 Pennsylvania Faculty Member

 

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

 

Betsy Bechtolt Magley spent most of her professional career as Vice President for Development and Communications for Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania.  In 2002, Magley was appointed to the Pennsylvania Commission for Women by Governor Ed Rendell. She helped to create Point Park University’s first Children’s School Parents Advisory Council and chaired it from inception in 2004 to 2008.

 

In 2006 she was appointed as an advisor to the Allegheny County/City of Pittsburgh Commission for Women and in 2007, she was named Chair of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women by the Governor. That same year, Magley joined Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh as Director of Development at The Andy Warhol Museum. She also has held posts with QED Communications, The Frick Art and Historical Center and Progressive Majority.


Magley is a member of the Pennsylvania League of Young Voters Inaugural Finance Committee and has volunteered on at least 12 political campaigns. She graduated from the inaugural class of Pennsylvania Fellows with the Center for Progressive Leadership in 2006 and was later elected to the CPL Pennsylvania Alumni Network Board.

 

Magley has conducted trainings for the Center for Progressive Leadership, The Coro Center for Civic Leadership, Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania and several political candidates. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Allegheny College, Meadville, PA.  She and her husband live in the East End of Pittsburgh with their three children.
