Mary Horstmann

2011 Pennsylvania Faculty Member

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Mary Horstmann has spent her career working to support candidates, elected officials and non-profit leaders who are focused on reforming government so that it works for its citizens, and to build a strong progressive network throughout the state.  Currently she is serving as the City of Philadelphia’s Deputy Policy Director, where she is tasked with identifying innovative solutions to address the City’s ongoing challenges.  Prior to that, she served as the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Private Sector Initiatives, working to build partnerships with private companies to assist on critical City projects.

Prior to her work in city government, Mary was the Director of Programs in Pennsylvania for the Center for Progressive Leadership, and a fundraiser for progressive candidates throughout the state.  She spent over two years as the Finance Director for Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz, where she helped raise over $7 million in campaign contributions, mostly through the small-dollar contributions of thousands supporters in Pennsylvania and across the country.

Throughout her tenure, the campaign was continually ranked in the top 25 for contributions raised for a Congressional race.
Mary is a graduate of Wellesley College, was raised in Delaware County and now resides in South Philadelphia.  She is excited to share her knowledge of fundraising, performance management and networking with the 2010 class of the Progressive Leaders Fellowship
