Derek Green

2010 Pennsylvania Faculty Member

 

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

 

Derek S. Green is the Special Counsel to Majority Leader and Philadelphia City Councilwoman Marian B. Tasco.  In 2007, Derek ran for City Council At-Large in Philadelphia, where he received over 30,000 votes and numerous endorsements from newspapers, labor unions, elected officials, Democratic wards, and political organizations. 

 

Derek has served as a campaign manager, advisor, or counsel to various political campaigns from local to state wide offices.   He also served as a Deputy City Solicitor and Assistant District Attorney for the City of Philadelphia and as an Assistant Deputy Attorney General for the State of Delaware.  Before becoming an attorney, he was a consumer and small business lender for Meridian Bank and he has served on the board of directors of numerous civic and professional organizations including but not limited to East Mt. Airy Neighbors, Pennsylvania Bar Association, Urban League of Philadelphia, West Oak Lane Charter School, YMCA of Germantown and West Philadelphia, and Young America Political Action Committee.


Derek is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Temple University School of Law.  Additionally, the Pennsylvania Law Weekly named Derek as a 2004 Lawyer on the Fast Track; Leadership Philadelphia selected him as one of the region’s key connectors and leaders, Metro Philadelphia selected him as one of 6 new young political leaders, and the Philadelphia Daily News named him one of the 10 under 40 rising political stars. 

 

He graduated from the CPL Political Leaders Fellowship inaugural class and serves in the Alumni Board.
