Emily Shamsid-Deen
Colorado Program Manager

 

 

Emily joined CPL in late November 2008 as Colorado’s Program Manager.   In this position, she is responsible for the overall management of CO-CPL’s leadership development programs, which includes oversight of fellows, management of faculty, curriculum development, and training facilitation. 

 

Prior to working for CPL, Emily was the Training Director for a state-wide domestic violence organization where she was responsible for all aspects of statewide trainings, including Advanced Advocacy Institutes, Executive Director Institutes, Immigration trainings, and Leadership Institutes for People of Color.  Emily also developed curriculum and provided technical assistance to member organizations. 

 

Emily has also been heavily involved with HIV/AIDS prevention and education work.  Emily was an HIV/AIDS education and prevention specialist for three years focusing on youth, women and communities of color.  She traveled around the metro-area giving presentations and facilitated community-wide trainings.  She also developed and facilitated groups for high-risk women on healthy relationships and self-care and conducted HIV testing and counseling.   

 

Emily graduated with a BA in Political Science and Black Studies from Colorado College and holds a Masters Degree in Nonprofit Management from Regis University.  Emily is currently a member of the Denver Big Picture High School Board of Directors and the Vice President of Service for the 5 Points Cultural Historic District (Denver) Rotary Club.
