Cecile Johnson
Colorado Outreach Director
|
Cecile Johnson joined CPL Colorado in July 2008 as their Outreach Director. She has a Bachelor Degree in Communication from Florida Gulf Coast University and has spent many years working in the social services and civil rights field in both New York City and sunny Florida, from where she recently migrated.
She is originally from Jamaica and has lived in many parts of the US. While living in Southwest Florida's Lee County she became very active in her community on issues of educational equity and issues affecting the African American Community. She has helped to facilitate racial dialogue groups in her community.
Through formal research as well as informal observation, she saw the many ways in which people of color, their children and their communities were repeatedly underserved. Rather than simply accepving this environment of low expectations, Cecile chose to heed to the words of Mahatma Gandhi and strive to "be the change she wishes to see in the world." Her efforts brought attention to these issues and governmental action - resulting in additional funding for youth programs in the Fort Myers area.
She is currently very active in issues concerning people of color and the GLBTQ community in Colorado including over policing, educational equity, and equal access for GLBTQ people. She is actively working on building coalitions amongst diverse groups in order to accomplish real political change in underserved communities.
Her vision is worldwide and includes a focus on creating a Marshall Plan for Africa and ending poverty worldwide as we know it. Unity in our community through peaceful measures is her goal.
