Karen Teja has lived in Colorado Springs for last 14 years with her 2 children.
After only living here a few months Karen became active in Girl Scouts, volunteered in her children’s classroom, participated in PTA and formed her Home Owners Association and many community and State issues. She has run for the State board of Education, and House District 14. Service to her community has been a key part of her life.
Karen was elected to the District 11 board of Education in 1997, after helping to pass the first School bond issue in 24 years that built 4 new schools, renovation occurred in all buildings and computers were brought into every classroom.
Karen was served to two terms on District 11 board until last November 2005 when she was term limited. She served at Board Treasurer and Vice President, headed the policy sub committee, started the liaison position for Early Childhood Education an served on board of Community Partnership for child development-Head Start, served on Bond and Mill levy oversight committee, passed a $300 million balanced budget every year, protected 60 million dollars in Districts/Tax payer assets, reduced administration costs by millions of dollars, respected all levels of staff and teachers and always asked what is best for children.
Karen holds a degree from Fullerton Community College 1989 with a certificate in Early Childhood Education and Administration Certification. Karen taught in early childhood education as a Master Teacher at Child Study Centers at Fullerton Community College and American River College for 6 years and 3 years in private schools.
