Jose Barrera, PhD

2010 Colorado Faculty Member

 

Joe Barrera has long worked to empower disenfranchised communities in Colorado , Texas, and California. He was a founding member of the original Colorado Springs Human Relations Commission in the 1970's. He is presently working to restore the Human Relations Commission in Colorado Springs after its destruction in the culture wars between left and right in Colorado Springs.


He graduated from Colorado College and earned his doctorate in American Literature at the University of Texas at Austin. He has been a professor of Ethnic Studies and Southwest American Literature at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

 

He works as a Consultant in the fields of Community Organizing, American Multiculturalism, Diversity Education,  Mexico/U.S. Border Studies, Southwest HIstory and Culture, and related topics.
