Katie Hobbs Phoenix
Profession: Director of Government Relations at the Sojourner Center
Fellowship Track: Future Candidate
Motivation: I am a social worker, and am motivated as a social worker to bring about social change that contributes to the well-being of all individuals. I don’t think this was clear to me when I began this path. I didn’t start out pursuing this. I wanted to make a difference for people who were experiencing some of the lowest times in their lives. But the more I learned about the social and economic and political conditions that contributed to them being there, the more I started moving in this direction. I now believe that social work is really about social change and my involvement in political activities is one way that I am working to bring about social change. My experiences as a social worker have definitely influenced my political vision.
Volunteer Highlights: Board of Directors, EMERGE Arizona; National Association of Social Workers, Arizona Chapter; Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence; Acting Chair, L.D. 15, Maricopa County; Arizona Democratic Party
Leadership Interests: I plan to run for the Arizona House of Representatives because every day I see the impact of their policy decisions on the clients served in the agency where I work.
CPL-AZ Mentor: Dana Kennedy; Communications Director of the Arizona AFL-CIO
