Technology Manager
Full Time Position - Washington, DC
The Center for Progressive Leadership (CPL) is a national political training institute that develops diverse leaders who can effectively advance progressive political and policy change. Through long-term, comprehensive programs for organizational leaders, political professionals, activists and future candidates, CPL provides promising leaders with the skills, resources, and networks needed to become powerful progressive leaders.
With a deep commitment to developing diverse, grassroots leaders, CPL has six permanent offices (Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.) and is opening 1-2 new offices each year.
CPL’s 35 staff and faculty across the country work every day to identify, recruit, train, coach, and mentor promising and diverse progressive leaders. Over the next three years, CPL has ambitious plans to add 4-6 new state offices, build a national training center and dorm in Washington DC, launch an intensive national fellowship program for the most promising progressive leaders in the country, double our staff team, and train thousands of diverse progressive leaders.

Job Description:
CPL is seeking an experienced, resourceful, responsible, detail-oriented, and creative Technology Manager to oversee our use of web-based technologies, including maintaining and improving our existing infrastructure as well as helping develop and innovate new ways to use online tools to support the mission of the organization.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Custom Application Development - Development and maintenance of customized online tools, including but not limited to program applications, coding for online forms, donation pages, online reports, and online learning communities that support certain programs. This includes directly overseeing a set of developer consultants who are responsible for the high-end coding and development work.
- Website Design and Management - Web maintenance and design, including managing the broad structure and design of the site to ensure it’s effectively meeting the needs of individual teams, reflecting the key messages, and advancing the mission of the organization, as well as specifically overseeing the maintainence online profiles of all CPL’s program participants and alumni, implementation of regular updates to CPL’s public website, development of new pages and sections of the site per development of the organization, and general traffic oversight
- Database Design and Management - Management and support for CPL’s contact management system, including supporting organization-wide use of effective email blasts and managing online payment and donation pages (currently use Dabble and Democracy in Action)
- Overseeing IT and Network Administration - Direct oversight and management of our IT consultants, including setting work priorities and project timelines, annual IT budgets and expenditures, and regularly evaluating work performed
- Technology and Strategy Innovation - Innovation of new online technologies and tools to support specific state teams and departments, as well as the overall mission of the organization
All job areas will involve regular interaction with CPL’s national and state staff to ensure that they are effectively using all CPL’s online technologies.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a project manager, including oversight of consultants, collaborative work with other team members in a fast-paced environment, and experience designing and working from plans with specific responsibilities and timelines
- Ability to strategically assess needs, evaluate variety of technology solutions (from coding language to vendor recommendations) and design plans to meet those needs in a timely, transparent way
- Experience and proven ability to work with staff at a variety of comfort levels with technology
- Experience working with and/or developing professional-quality interactive web applications. Ability to determine strategic plans involving the use of HTML, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL.
- Experience with administering contact management systems, including platforms like Dabble, Democracy in Action, Salesforce, and others.
- A familiarity and commitment to new technologies and methods used in progressive political organizing, including new media tools
Location:
Position based in CPL’s National Headquarters in Washington, DC. Will remotely support CPLs state offices in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Colorado and Ohio. Occasional travel required.
