Running for Congress:
CPL Alumni Bryan Lentz put together a team of CPL alumni to run his campaign in Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District

Born and raised in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Bryan Lentz was taught early the importance of service to his country, his Commonwealth and his community.

A fourth generation Army veteran, Bryan was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army infantry. Bryan served overseas assignments include the war in Iraq, tours with Multi-National Force and Observers, and NATO peacekeeping missions in the Sinai Peninsula and Bosnia.

In his civilian life, Bryan earned a law degree from Temple University and served six years as a prosecutor with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, prosecuting gang members, rapists and other violent offenders.

Running for Office in Pennsylvania

After participating in CPL’s 2006 Springboard Training, Bryan decided to take on a 28-year Republican incumbent for a seat in the Pennsylvania House, winning with 51.5 percent of the vote.

He handily won re-election to represent the 161st Legislative District in 2008.

During his first year in office, Bryan voted to end the secretive midnight voting that lead to the infamous pay raise and supported comprehensive open-records reform to make our state government more transparent.. During his time in the Pennsylvania House, Bryan fought tirelessly to create jobs, promote green technology and provide excellent service to his constituents.

In 2009, Bryan took another leap, announcing his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives to replace former Congressman Joe Sestak.

"I learned in the military the importance of training and organization. CPL provides trained leaders to run successful campaigns for progrssive candidates who are working to lead our country forward," says Bryan.

Putting Together a Campaign Team

In building his campaign team to run for Congress, Bryan assembled a group of CPL alumni to form his senior staff, including his Campaign Manager, Finance Director, and Political & Field Director.

A 2007 Pennsylvania Political Leaders Fellow, Aubrey Montgomery has been a leader in the pro-choice community in Philadelphia as the head of NARAL Pro-Choice as well as a well-known finance director for progressive candidates in the state. She worked on the campaigns of State Representative Daylin Leach and District Attorney Seth Williams before being recruited to Bryan’s team. On the campaign, she serves as the Finance Director and member of the senior team.

“All of us regularly rely on our CPL training and networks to help us in our jobs and to elect a progressive congressman,” says Aubrey.

Vincent Rongione, a 2005 CPL alumni, serves as Bryan’s Campaign Manager. He has worked on Democratic campaigns since graduating from law school and was recently named of the 10 most effective campaign staffers in Pennsylvania.

Michael Eagle, another 2005 CPL alumni, is the team’s Political & Field Director. Michael ran the field operations for both of Bryan’s state legislative victories.

"CPL has given us the training, the networks and the materials to have run successful campaigns in the past. We now get to use our CPL background to ensure we elect a solidly progressive candidate like Bryan Lentz to the U.S. Congress."
