CPL's State Political Leaders Fellowship is a selective, 9-month, non-partisan, part-time leadership program for individuals interested in advancing progressive political and policy change.

CPL Celebrates Election Cycle Wins
Political Leaders Fellowship Alumni Achieve Victories in Pennsylvania and Michigan


We are proud to celebrate the 2009 election cycle victories by some of our Political Leaders Fellowship alumni in Pennsylvania and Michigan, two states in need of more progressive policy change.


With big losses for progressive lawmakers across the country this election cycle including in Virginia and New Jersey, the victories by our Political Leaders Fellowship alumni is more than just a reminder of the work that still needs to be done. It is also a reminder for the continuing need to develop more leaders who will make the impact that we at CPL hope to see in our communities and our nation.


Below is a snapshot of some of the stories from last Tuesday:


Mike Schlossberg – Elected to City Council in Allentown, Pennsylvania
Michael Schlossberg, 26, is an urban revitalization specialist with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. A member of the 2008 Pennsylvania Political Leaders Fellowship, he won election to the City Council in Allentown, Pennsylvania last Tuesday. ''I feel fantastic,'' Schlossberg said. ''I've never experienced anything like this in my life.”
Kermit Williams - Elected to Pontiac City Council
Kermit Williams is a 2009 graduate of the Michigan Political Leaders Fellowship and was elected to Pontiac City Council. He has been a community organizer in his hometown of Pontiac for many years and is active in his local church community.
Anne Crowley – Elected to School Board Director for Tredyffrin/Easttown, Chester County
A former candidate for the Pennsylvania State House in 2006, Anne Crowley is a board member of the Chester County Health Department. She is a graduate of the 2008 Pennsylvania Political Leaders Fellowship and won the election for School Board Director for the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District in Chester County. “ I am deeply grateful for those who supported my candidacy,” Anne said shortly after her victory. “I look forward to working with the Board and Administration on behalf of our students and community.”
Mike Schleigh – Appointed Council Member for the Borough of Lansdowne, Delaware County
A trial attorney by trade, Mike Schleigh was a 2008 Pennsylvania Political Leaders Fellowship. During this election cycle, he was appointed as a Council Member for the Borough of Lansdowne in Delaware County. He is also an Associate at Deasey Mahoney Valentini & North, Ltd.
